Food Waste Week
Food Waste Action Week 18 - 24th March 2024
This year Food Waste Action Week wants you to choose loose fruit and vegetables, so you only buy what you need, and use it all up.
Not only will it save you money, it will reduce your waste - so it's a win win all round! WRAP reseach has shown if all apples, bananas and potatoes were sold loose we could save a whopping 60,000 tonnes of food waste, just by shoppers only buying what they need (and if you don't know what 60,000 tonnes looks like, it's the same as the weight of the Spirit of Adventure cruise ship!). So, next time you are in the supermarket, take a look at their 'Wonky' range and choose your own, rather than prepacked.
The next step is to make sure you use it all up, and no better place for ideas than Delia's recipes we have put together using leftovers.

Busy cooks like to cook for the freezer, but it can be difficult to know what can be frozen and what can't. Here's our guide to the big chill.
Freezing advice
The freezer is also your friend for avoiding unnecessary waste, whether it's a surplus of home grown fruit and vegetables or batch cooking. Our collection of 100 recipes to freeze compiled for Christmas has plenty of non-festive choices - including fish pies, tarts, terrines, cakes and sauces, and all the recipes have their freezing instructions.
